Anica Shpilberg is a Peruvian born Miami based artist. Anica started creating art at a very early age in her native Peru after her mother introduced her to handicrafts such as embroidery, knitting and sewing. However, when Anica started spending hours drawing in her notebooks her mother enrolled her in painting classes. In 1970, she emigrated to the United States, where she studied design and printmaking at the Pratt Institute, and mixed media and steel sculpture at the Silvermine School of Art in Connecticut. She also studied photography at ICP in New York.
Her work is a combination of Expressionism, Constructivism and reflects the influence of some of the key figures of the 20th century, including Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella and Clifford Still.
Presently she has her own studio in Miami. She was part of “Studio 58” in Miami where she had a studio and gallery.
She also Spent 12 years as a resident artist in The Bakehouse Art Complex.
Anica has exhibited extensively throughout the US and around the world. Her work is in private collections to date.
Atelier Anica´s fashion line is a partnership between Anica and her daughter Tamara which began in 2020 during Covid. Together they have realized Anica’s dream of turning her work into wearable art during a moment when people needed something beautiful in their lives to help get through such a difficult time. Anica & Tamara work together hand in hand creating unique pieces and making it available to the world.
